On 6 February 1958 Matt Busby’s brilliant young Manchester United team were returning from a European cup semi-final against Red Star Belgrade, in Yugoslavia, when tragedy struck. Following a refuelling stop at Munich airport, the charter plane carrying Busby’s Babes crashed during take off.Twenty-three of the 43 passengers died, including eight members of the team. It was a national tragedy that shook the country to its core and ended a dream. Surviving Disaster tells the story of this tragedy, using eyewitness accounts, and dramatically reconstructs the fateful last journey of the team.The programme also looks at the aftermath of the crash and the resulting investigation that was held into its cause.
